ITU POLITICAL CRISIS: Former State Assembly Member Denies Involvement, Threaten Legal Action

As the people of Itu Local Government Area continue to grapple with the aftermath of the melee at the Council Secretariat that led to the manhandling of several persons,  a former Member representing Itu State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly; Hon. Prince Idongesit Ituen has condemned a news item circulated on some social media platforms; insinuating that he was the mastermind behind Friday's violent altercation at the Itu Local Government Council Secretariat, Mbak Atai Itam; during a meeting supposedly convened by ex Member of the House of Representatives; Dr. Henry Archibong.

In a letter signed by Abundance Akpan of Samuel Ikpo and Company, Zion Chamber - on behalf of Prince Ituen and sighted by our reporter, Ituen said the publication authored by  one "Job Udo" is an attempt to tarnish his image and bring him to disrepute.  He stated that the writer's allegations that he arrived the venue of the said meeting with a band of irate youth to unleash mayhem is completely false and misleading.

"We hereby state emphatically and categorically that at no time did our Client walk into the Hall with any person or group of persons talk less of irate youths. Our Client as a law abiding citizen does not believe in taking the laws into his hands or in acts capable of causing a breakdown of law and order." the letter read

Ituen who denied any involvement in Friday's brawl, said he  will not hesitate to take legal action against any person or group of persons who spread falsehood in attempts to win the sympathy of the people. Particularly at the expense of injuring his hard earned reputation and warned that he is ready to seek redress in court for any libelous article against his person and bring anyone found culpable to book.

It would be recalled that a meeting of some members of the People's Democratic Party; convened by the Honourary Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matter (Uyo Senatorial District), Dr. Henry Archibong degenerated to a chaos after protesting  youth invaded the venue to register their displeasure over an alleged plot to foist a political greenhorn as the party's candidate in the forthcoming Local Government Council elections.

While some say a meeting with surreptitious agenda was the reason for the imbroglio, others allege it was the deliberate exclusion of many other critical stakeholders and aspirants that sparked the conflict which reportedly brought the meeting to an abrupt and bloodied ending, leaving few persons injured while some political leaders suspected of being the mastermind of the now failed attempt to conduct a mock nomination were beaten and had to be smuggled out of the venue.
